|Dr Fiona Taukulis|
As Senior Principal Aquatic Scientist Fiona leads the Aquatic Ecology Group at Outback Ecology where the emphasis of the work is assessing impacts on inland waters and subterranean fauna for the mining industry. Since starting with Outback Ecology in 2005 she has been instrumental in improving and expanding the service lines provided by the group. Fiona has a PhD in Environmental Biology from Curtin University and her thesis investigated the distribution of diatom communities from lakes and streams of varying salinity throughout the south-west of Western Australia. Her particular areas of expertise include the analysis of water and sediment quality, diatom and algal taxonomy and riparian vegetation from freshwater and saline ecosystems. She has an extensive background in salt lake ecology and subterranean fauna with an extensive publication list. Fiona is actively involved in undergraduate teaching at Curtin University focusing on wetland management and biological monitoring. She has developed monitoring programs for wetlands throughout areas of Western Australia impacted by urbanisation, agriculture and mining and is highly competent in the statistical analyses of biological data to discern long-term trends.
