Ravenswood is a town located around 130 km south west of Townsville in Queensland. In the late nineteenth century, the town was a thriving mining community and several historic buildings remain from this period, including the Railway and Imperial Hotel. Today the town continues as a mining community, with Carpentaria Gold Pty Ltd (Resolute Mining) operating the Ravenswood Gold Mine.
In 2008 and 2009, Outback Ecology in conjunction with David Tongway, an originator of the Landscape Function Analysis method, held an EFA workshop (LFA and vegetation) together with mine staff, environmental regulators and interested stakeholders at Ravenswood Gold Mine. The workshops provided the oppurtunity to receive both field and theoretical instruction on the LFA methodololgy, in the uniquely historic and environmentally diverse setting of Ravenswood.
