Mine Closure

The Mine Closure team at Outback Ecology provide quality closure planning advice and implementation strategies to a large range of clients within the mining sector. Services range from advice and program design for GIS based Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure (PRAC®) Systems, planned closure programs, temporary or unforseen closure programs, tailings decommissioning and closure, legal compliance registers, establishment and supervision of rehabilitation and closure activities, quality assurance of closure works, and success criteria establishment and auditing.

 

The Mine Closure Group within Outback Ecology offers the following services:

Progressive Rehabilitation and Closure (PRAC®) Systems

  • GIS based software systems to manage on-going rehabilitation.
  • Conceptual closure planning for project approvals, and updated progressively during operation.
  • Prioritise and schedule site rehabilitation.
  • Linking PRAC® progress review to annual environmental reporting and annual bond review.

Bond Review

  • Detailed assessment of disturbance areas using digital aerial photography or ground survey data.
  • Review disturbance type and rehabilitation status of disturbed areas.
  • Calculation and reconciliation of tenement bonds.
  • Application for bond adjustment.

Mine Closure Planning

  • Development of legal compliance registers.
  • Gap analysis investigations, identifying gaps from detailed reviews of current site status and available technical data.
  • Undertake/coordinate scientific investigations to fill identified knowledge gaps.
  • Stakeholder identification and engagement programs.
  • Development of closure solutions for individual project areas.

Mine and Tailings Decommissioning

  • Implementation of rehabilitation plans from PRAC® and closure plans.
  • Tailings decommissioning and closure.
  • Coordination of closure design and cost estimation.
  • Development of decommissioning plans and task sheets.
  • Interpretation of decommissioning task sheets to earthmoving contractors.
  • Supervision of earthmoving contractors.
  • Audit and review of decommissioning earthworks and as-built documentation.
