Originally formed to assist clients in the mining industry with a range of issues related to dewatering and dishcarge impacts, the Aquatic Ecology Group has now grown to offer a range of environmental services related to the ecology of plant, algal and invertebrate communities associated with inland water bodies (ephemeral and permanent), including freshwater, salt lakes and groundwater systems. The Aquatic team is experienced in undertaking comprehensive surveys and providing sound environmental assessments for mining and development projects. The team is highly skilled in the community dynamics and taxonomy of: algae, in particular diatoms; Cyanobacteria, aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates (including the Graceful Sun Moth), subterranean fauna (stygofauna and troglofauna); riparian vegetation and microbial soil (crytogamic) crusts. With a strong background in research, the group have developed a range of monitoring tools that are designed specifically for the unpredictable Australian environment. Aquatic Ecology also have access to state of the art laboratory equipment, including the latest high end Leica microscopes and Automontage imaging software, enhancing the groups taxonomic capabilities. Together with an extensive database, for both surface and subterranean environments, Outback Ecology is able to provide a wide range of services at all assessment levels.
